- Kay Williamson, Igbo-English Dictionary (1972) — Scholarly linguistic dictionary with detailed phonological notation. More rigorous than Ogbalu for linguistic purposes.
- F.C. Ogbalu, Ilu Igbo (Igbo Proverbs) — The standard proverb collection. Essential for understanding Igbo oral philosophy in its linguistic form.
Grammars and Linguistic Studies
- E.N. Emenanjo, Auxiliaries in Igbo Syntax (1985) — The most rigorous formal analysis of a key aspect of Igbo grammar.
- Kay Williamson, Igbo Tone Rules — The foundational study of Igbo tonology. Available in academic journals; essential for understanding the tonal system.
- Romanus Egudu & Donatus Nwoga, Poetic Heritage: Igbo Traditional Verse (1971) — Collection and translation of Igbo oral poetry. Essential for the literary dimension of the language.

- Önwu Orthography Committee Report (1961) — The foundational document of standard written Igbo. Available through SPILC and university libraries.
- Society for Promoting Igbo Language and Culture (SPILC) publications — The primary source for Igbo language standardisation documents and policy discussions.
- Ndebe script documentation — Available at ndebe.org. The most comprehensive documentation of the indigenous Igbo script and its design principles.
